Love & Fear

Everyone experiences love and fear at different points in their lives. When you’re young, your emotions are incredibly raw and reactive, so you experience these feelings more intensely than as an adult. This is because your emotional brain is still maturing (and is therefore not always operating at peak efficiency). However, that everyone experiences both emotions doesn’t make them equivalent. Fear is a natural response to potentially life-threatening situations, whereas love is a positive emotion that stems from being attracted to someone. It's not something that usually terrifies us. Based on this, which one do you feel most motivated by? Do you operate under the assumption that there’s no wrong answer, or are you unsure about that? Let’s look at some answers... Fear motivates most people; this is because it’s a very basic emotion that connects us with our survival instincts. When you’re in a dangerous or uncertain situation, you don’t know what the outcome will be, so the brain automatically triggers a fear response to make us ‘run for your lives - it's a protective, instinctual emotion. When you operate from this mindset and constantly seek motivation to keep you going in life, you’re actually being motivated by fear. This is because fear is a very negative emotion that’s completely misguided, whereas motivation is a positive force that leads you toward achieving your goals. To be motivated is to be driven, not to be pushed. Love motivates most people; however, many mistakenly base their lives on the assumption that it’s equivalent to fear. We often confuse feelings of attraction and affection with the sense of being ‘pushed’ to succeed in life. What many people don’t realize is that feelings of love and affection differ from feelings of fear. This is because love is a positive emotion that makes you want to bond with someone and create a strong connection with them. Unfortunately, many people confuse feelings of love with feelings of desire, and desire is a very selfish emotion that has nothing to do with what someone else needs. To be motivated by love is to be driven by your desire to bond with someone and create a strong connection with them, but it has nothing to do with pushing them to succeed in life.
